Background:  Peter started running in college at the University of Tennessee ROTC program.  He continued running off and on through dental school and while in the Army.  He has run on 3 different continents.  He ran only 5Ks and 10Ks until 2006, when he decided to run his first marathon.  In 2008 he realized that just running had become monotonous so he jumped into triathlon training.  He was hooked!  He participated in IMLP 2011 and looks forward to participating in IM MOO 2012.  Married with one son and is owner/dentist for www.DentistryinBuckhead.com.

Background: Joseph wrestled in high school and always enjoyed running for training. During college he gained a lot of weight and decided that he wanted to get back in shape after weighing 245 lbs in January 2008.  He started training for a 10k and after that talked his dad into doing a half marathon with him in fall 2008.   In 2009 he signed up for his 1st marathon and survived with a time of 4:38.  After that a friend talked him into signing up for a Half Ironman and upon completion the triathlon bug had set in. 2010 Joseph joined the Atlanta Triathlon Club. Since 2008, he has lost a little over 60 lbs and has achieved a marathon PR time of 3:21. He enjoys running long and seeing people perform to the best of their abilities. 

 

Ron Teed – Head TNR Coach

Background: Ron has been running for 10 years and doing triathlons for 4 years.  He completed Ironman Wisconsin in 2007 with a time of 12:43.  Recently, Ron qualified for the Boston Marathon.  He has coached at both the group and individual level for the last 7 years. He has a wide range of experience with both beginner and advanced level athletes, and knows what it takes to bring an athlete to the next level of performance. You might also find Ron assisting other club members as a regular Spin Instructor, in the pool, or out on a bike course. He looks forward to helping you attain all the goals you have set for yourself as well as challenging you to reach for the stars.  This will be Ron’s forth year coaching for the Atlanta Triathlon Club.

 

 

David Stewart – Head Track Coach

Background: In high school, David lettered in track, football and baseball.  He went on to run for Pima Community College in Tucson Arizona.  David earned his B.S. in psychology from Prescott College, and his M.A. in special education from the University of Arizona in 1996. He was introduced to triathlons by a friend of his in 1994, but didn’t start participating until 1999.  In 2001, David founded K.Y.D.S., Inc which serves at risk youth in the Atlanta area.  These kids struggle to succeed in the regular school setting and K.Y.D.S., Inc. serves as supplement to the daily school routine.  Over 15 boys have participated in the after school program, and one earned his degree at Atlanta Area Tech.  In 2007, K.Y.D.S., Inc. received a grant from USAT which he used to get the kids swim lesson at the local YMCA. That year, 4 kids participated in the IRONKIDS triathlon and have completed 5 since then. The program was featured in “Triathlete Life” magazine and the Atlanta Journal Constitution in the summer of 2007.  David completed his first Ironman in 2004 (the Great Floridian), finished Ironman Florida and Ironman Arizona in 2007, and did Ironman Arizona again in 2009 and 2010.

Background: Bethany has been an ACE certified trainer since 2002. She started as a college athlete looking for a way to stay involved in sports and fitness.  For several years, she gained experience with different client needs including sports performance, weight loss, older clients, and children. Most recently, Bethany launched Atlanta Wellness Solutions which provides high quality coaching and wellness coaching services to clients online and in-person.  Bethany has an M.A. in Health Science/Health Promotion as well as graduate training in Counseling. She is a member of the Atlanta Track Club women's competitive team and the Atlanta Triathlon Club's elite racing team. Her favorite mode of exercise is jogging with her two dogs, Sadie, and Bailey.

Background:  David learned to swim when he was a little squirt.  He ran cross country and track in high school.  His dad has been doing tri’s for 30 years and in 2006 David decided he wanted to get a tri bike so I could see what he has been talking about.  He was hooked from his first race (Lake Lanier sprint 2006).  He enjoys riding bikes and doing bricks.  There’s nothing better than swimming a couple miles in Lake Acworth or Allatoona.  David loves all distances of triathlons because to be competitive at each type presents a different kind of challenge.

 

Rich Yarbrough – Assistant Run Coach

Background: Rich was a 4-year Varsity wrestler (and 3-year letterman) in high school and didn’t truly discover running and endurance sports until age 35.  Since then, he has discovered a passion for running, cycling, swimming, and triathlon.  Rich’s best marathon finish is 3:30 (ING GA Marathon 2010) and his best half-marathon finish is 1:30:00 (Publix GA Half-Marathon 2011).  In just over a year of triathlon participation Rich has completed nine triathlons; Ironman Wisconsin 2012 will be Rich’s first full IRONMAN distance.  Rich brings to ATC a love for the sport of triathlon and a true passion for helping others attain their goals.

Background: Bobby woke up one morning in 2003 and finally decided to try out this “running thing” his buddies were doing, preventing them from going out anymore on Friday nights.  He has never since turned back.  His first race was the 2003 Peachtree Road Race.  After signing up for the 2003 Kiawah Island half marathon, he switched to the full marathon the day before the race and completed it for his first marathon.  Bobby was later convinced to try out triathlons and did his first in 2005.  His first Half IRONMAN was in 2007.  After playing baseball and softball throughout his life, he now dedicates his athletic endeavors to marathons and triathlons.  This will be his fifth year coaching with the Atlanta Triathlon Club.

 

Beau Bearden – Assistant Run Coach

Background: Beau was never a competitive swimmer, cross-country runner or All-American in high school or college. Triathlons were only a way to break up the workout routine and challenge himself. After completing his first sprint triathlon in 2007 there was no looking back. The first couple of years he completed countless sprint and olympic distance races and began coaching to give back to the sport. As his endurance passion continued to grow so did the distance of his races. The past couple of years have included multiple marathons along with numerous 70.3 triathlons and four Ironman finishes. With no plans to slow down in 2011 he looks to complete three more Ironman races and the 12.5 Mile Swim Around Key West. Beau knows what it is like to start from scratch in this sport and is excited to help another great group of ATC athletes along their personal journey and watch them exceed all their goals!

 

Kim Locher – Assistant Run Coach


Running Experience: Approx 50-60 Marathons; have run Boston 3 times, 2007-09, qualified multiple times. Able to run New York City marathon, bypassing the lottery by ‘qualifying’ for entry, 2010.

Cycling Experience: Multiple Century Rides, including 5 IM races, including surviving the infamous Blazing Saddles century twice!

Triathlon Experience: 5 Ironman; 8 Half-Ironman, over a handful Sprints & Olympics

Awards:  Multiple running awards in 1st running career (younger years) including National team 1996; multiple AG awards in triathlon career, improved after unanticipated time off in 2010  at Sprint, Olympic, 70.3 and 140.6 distance. In top 25% for AG 2011.

Qualified for Worlds Duathlon Long Course Championship 2011; National Triathlon Long Course Championships 2011.

Certifications:  USAT Level 1 pending (Feb 2012), USA Cycling Level 3, ACLS/BLS

Background: Ancient marathoner. Ran exclusively until injury 2 months before first Boston Marathon sidelined me. Still ran Boston J,then originally taking to the bike to improve run speed, and to the pool only to keep me healthy enough so I could still run. Entered a sprint triathlon in 2007.  A month after that, signed up for IMAZ 2008, and the rest is triathlon history.

Currently, continuing the focus for improvement in my own 2d athletic career, and an outward focus on bringing up the current/next crop of triathletes and runners. The objective is on injury-free and rewarding careers in an active lifestyle, and ongoing improvement in their first, second and third best sport!

Background: Ann has always had an interest in sports and fitness. In 2005 Ann ran her first half-marathon and in 2007 her first full marathon. Ann joined the Atlanta Triathlon Club for its inaugural season in 2008 and completed her first triathlon.  Ann moved to Atlanta from Nebraska in 2006 to attend graduate school at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. She is now an epidemiologist at the CDC.

Background: Scott started running in Middle School (called Junior High back then) and continued to run Cross Country in High School.  He then took the next few years off while in College before he started back running in the early nineties and ran the New York marathon in 1991.  Scott completed his first duathlon and sprint triathlon in 2001 and his first Olympic in 2002.  He finished the Coeur d'Alene Ironman in 2006 and did his first Half Ironman (St Croix) in 2007 before completing Ironman Wisconsin in 2007.  Scott has run the Peachtree Road Race 22 times.

Background: Aldrin is native from Mexico. He had played football since he was 6 years old until he ended college.  In 2005, Aldrin was hired by an international firm and gave him the opportunity to work abroad in Atlanta. In 2006, he joined a local running club and trained for his first marathon.  During that same year he started cycling and swimming with Jim Boylan and finished the year doing 2 sprint and 3 Olympic triathlons. Aldrin was happily honored as the “Newbie of the Year” in 2006. In 2007, Aldrin jumped to the adventure of doing Half Ironmans and other triathlons. With a lot of hard training in 2008, Aldrin completed his first Ironman in Louisville, KY.  In 2009, Aldrin completed 3 Half Ironmans, 1 Olympic triathlon, many century rides; and 2 marathons.

Background: Amy started running back in high school for her cross country and track teams. She has been running ever since. She began formal marathon training in 2006 and completed the Chicago marathon, her first of 6 marathon finishes to this point. That same year, Amy decided to pursue the sport of triathlon. In 2007, she completed the St. Anthony’s Olympic distance Triathlon as her first, and ended that season completing the South Carolina Half Ironman. Amy has always set high goals for herself. Recently, she qualified for the Boston Marathon. She completed her first Ironman this past season in Louisville, KY and will be training again this season for Ironman Wisconsin.
