Background: In high school Jim was named “All-State” for lacrosse and then went on to play NCAA Division I Varsity Lacrosse at the University of Notre Dame.  From 1998 to 2000 he coached the Georgia Tech lacrosse team while earning his Ph.D. from Tech.  Jim has been coaching runners and triathletes since 2002.  In 2007, Jim founded Triathlon Coaching Services, LLC which specializes in one-on-one personalized training plans for Half and Full Ironman races.  In addition, Jim co-founded the Atlanta Triathlon Club in 2008 and is responsible for coordinating many aspects of the club including training schedules, coaching, field testing, seminars, and clinics.  In 2011, Jim was elected to the USAT SE regional council.

  

Marcia Ritter – Financial Director

Certifications: USAT&F Level I Coaching Certification, Certified Personal Trainer, AFAA Certified Indoor Cycling Instructor

Background: Marcia has been running since 1990, but gave up running for two years to start a business. As a result, she gained over 50 pounds.  In 2004, she joined a running group and lost 45 pounds and completed the Chicago marathon.  For the next three years, Marcia coached a marathon pace group for a local running group.  In 2007, Marcia completed her first triathlon and in 2009 she completed the Augusta Half Ironman.  Marcia’s coaching goals includes introducing more African-Americans to the sport of triathlons and showing people of all ages, sizes and shapes that they too can become successful triathletes.  Marcia is a co-founder of the Atlanta Triathlon Club and is responsible for club finances.

 

John Rutledge – Sales & Marketing Director

Awards: ATC’s 2010 Most Improved Triathlete, ATC’s 2011 Triathlete of the Year, 2010 IM Augusta 70.3 (1st Mixed Relay), 2010 Lake Lanier Sprint (3rd AG), 2011 John Tanner Sprint (3rd AG), 2011 Peachtree International (5th AG), 2011 Gulf Coast Triathlon (3rd Mixed Relay), 2011 Tri P’tree City Sprint (3rd AG)

Background:  John lettered in 4 sports in high school, playing soccer, basketball, tennis & golf.  Over the subsequent decade and a half, John intermittently ran, doing an occasional 5k race.  In 2009, he started to compete in triathlons after having been intrigued by them, but doubting he could do it.  He has since found the competitive fire he thought long extinguished has been reignited!  John holds to great distinction of being married to a Kona (IM World Championships in Hawaii) Qualifier.  John received a MBA degree with a concentration in marketing in 2004.  He is currently the managing partner of Cobalt Property Services, LLC, a multifamily property management company he started in 2009 as well as the President of Rutledge Management Corporation, an entity that invests in various real estate ventures, which he started in 2003.

 

Bethany Rutledge – Coaching Director

Awards: 2009 Atlanta Tri Club Triathlete of the Year, 2009-2010 Age group placements in local races, 2011 Highlights: 1st OA (x2) and 3rd OA at local sprints, 9th AG at Ironman Louisville, 3rd AG/10th overall amateur at Ironman FL, qualification for Hawaii Ironman World Championships 2012 and the Boston Marathon

Certifications:  USAT&F Level I Coaching Certification, USA Triathlon Level 3 Coaching, American Council of Exercise Certified Personal Trainer, CPR Certification

Background: Bethany has been an ACE certified trainer since 2002. She started as a college athlete looking for a way to stay involved in sports and fitness.  For several years, she gained experience with different client needs including sports performance, weight loss, older clients, and children. Most recently, Bethany launched Atlanta Wellness Solutions which provides high quality coaching and wellness coaching services to clients online and in-person.  Bethany has an M.A. in Health Science/Health Promotion as well as graduate training in Counseling. She is a member of the Atlanta Track Club women's competitive team and the Atlanta Triathlon Club's elite racing team. Her favorite mode of exercise is jogging with her two dogs, Sadie, and Bailey.
